Siberut Island Forest Rehabilitation - Indonesia
Embark on a transformative journey with our ongoing initiative on Siberut Island, Sumatra, Indonesia. The primary objective is to champion environmental conservation by adopting advanced forest management techniques, steering clear of harmful logging practices. Our multifaceted strategy prioritizes biodiversity enhancement, carbon stock protection, and the establishment of a sustainable land-use model.
Project Highlights:
-Forest Safeguarding: Guard posts and regular patrolling, particularly at key access points like Sotboyak and Saibi Sumakop, ensure the protection of Siberut Island's precious forests.
-Natural Regeneration: Emphasis on Enhanced Natural Regeneration in logged-over areas leverages the potential for natural renewal, especially in regions with a dense population of large trees.
-Biodiversity Conservation: Comprehensive biodiversity studies within and around the project area inform our conservation efforts, ensuring a holistic approach to protecting Siberut's diverse natural heritage.
Community Engagement:
We actively involve local communities, implementing agroforestry to enhance livelihoods and contribute to climate change mitigation through reduced emissions and increased carbon sequestration. Addressing the critical issue of wildfires, our training, monitoring, and prevention procedures prioritize the safety of local populations.
Project Impact:
By avoiding continued logging and clear-cutting, our sustainable management approach anticipates significant carbon emission reductions equivalent to 787,551 tonnes (t) CO2. This contributes to a total of 23,625,323 tonnes of certified emission reductions (CERs). Our holistic approach underscores our commitment to environmental conservation, community well-being, and long-term ecological sustainability.
Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
Throughout the project, we've made strides toward numerous SDGs, including No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good Health & Well-being, Quality Education, Gender Equality, Clean Water & Sanitation, Affordable & Clean Energy, Decent Work & Economic Growth, Climate Action, and Life on Land.
